The Water Brothers is an eco-adventure series exploring the most important water stories of our time, featuring Alex and Tyler Mifflin. They have recently graduated from University – Alex from environmental studies on the East Coast and Tyler from film school on the West Coast. And while they are miles apart on many things, they are united by one: the desire to explore the delicate state of our Blue Planet.
One of the unique aspects of this documentary series is that Alex and Tyler are effectively creating this series on their own. Alex is the lead researcher, co-writer and co-host, and Tyler is co-host, director and co-producer. They share a love of travel and adventure, a passion for the subject and a powerful desire to communicate their passion to audiences, especially their own generation.
In the first season, The Water Brothers will take you around the world from the mighty Mekong River in South East Asia, to the frozen Arctic Circle, the disappearing coral reefs of the Caribbean and the Carp infested waters of the Mississippi and Illinois Rivers. Water is more valuable than oil or gold but it is rarely given its true value. Through the eyes of Alex and Tyler, we learn for ourselves what the problems are, what the local people and experts say about these problems and most importantly, what we can all do about them. Join them on their adventure!
Season 2 is now in production.
The series is executive produced by SK Films and co-produced by Jonathan Barker, Wendy MacKeigan and Tyler Mifflin. Co-written by Carl Knutson and Alex Mifflin. Film Editor is Steve Guise.

Is it possible to get transcripts of the programming, since there is so much information contained in each episode- far too much to remember.I’m amazed at how little people know or are misinformed, even university graduates, and thereby, pass on the misinformation.
I’m a school principal on summer vacation, who just watched six episodes of “The Water Boys” in a row, and immediately emailed the link my Science, Social Studies and Technology teachers to share this resource with them. Thank you for connecting matters of natural science and the environment to global factors and societal challenges so thoroughly.
I think I read reference on your site to this being the “first season”. Please tell me that there will be a second and a third….I can think of all sorts of water issues and challenges unique to the Canadian prairies where I live…and then there is the rest of the world to consider too!
Hi guys!!
I’d love to help out any way I can. I was wondering if you need any volunteers, because I would be so happy if I could do that for you guys.If there are ANY possibilities to volunteer, please let me know by email.
Many thanks,
Alice
Hi Alice, thank you for your interest in the show and helping us out. We do not require any volunteer help at the moment but if we do we would be pleased to get in contact sometime in the future.
I just watched the episode on bottled water. I can’t believe how quick we are to kill the planet! It was a fantastic eye opener.
I noticed in the episode that there was a bind test done on bottled water and tap water. what about filtered water?
I also heard a lot on the show that the tap water is safe; never once did I hear it was healthy”
The chlorine, or chloramine, or chlorine gas designed to kill living organisms in the water, to make safe, cannot be healthy for a living organism, the human body, to consume and be healthy.
Should we not filter all unnatural chemicals that are not healthy for the human body added to the water supply from the water before consumption?
Hi Geoff thank you for your interest in the show and our episode on bottled water and tap water. Th blind taste test was done using tap water from a Ryerson University drinking fountain and bottled spring water from two different, well-known bottled water brands. We didn’t feel to need to promote the “healthiness” of tap water because that is the kind of language used by the bottled water industry to mislead the public into thinking that tap water is somehow unhealthy. As for your question regarding chlorine, it is used in extremely low quantities and is put in water to ensure that pathogens, bacteria and viruses that could seriously harm your health will not survive. If you are concerned about the presence or taste of chlorine in your tap water there are many effective water filters that remove chlorine, such as those offered by Brita. Or if you do not wish to spend any money, simply fill up a large jug with tap water and let it sit out in the fridge for three to four hours. Chlorine naturally dissipates from the water when exposed to oxygen and will evaporate overnight if left in the fridge.
What about Great Lakes water levels? A very serious trending decline is evident here not inline with the historic water level cyclic record. Impacts huge – ecological and economic.
Also, you guys have cottage on G.Bay and have witnessed this first hand.
