Episode Description
Canadians enjoy one of the cleanest and most plentiful supplies of freshwater in the world. Tap water is also cheap and easily accessible, so why is there such a huge demand for bottled water? The Water Brothers visit a water treatment facility and discover that water from the tap is often of the same quality or even better than bottled water. Globally, 17 million barrels of oil are needed to produce and distribute bottled water annually. The true cost of bottled water just doesn’t add up, both in Canada and around the world.
Just watched this with my family. I have always advocated for use of tap water. My question is why aren’t provincial governments taxing the bottled water companies more? If the price of bottled water goes up people won’t buy it so much. Also I just checked out the Quench app. It needs updating.
Every time there is a potential hurricane people are encouraged to buy bottled water. It would be wonderful if there was a huge campaign to encourage people to just fill up their containers at home or if they buy bottled water to refill them at home rather than buying more. Otherwise It defeats all the efforts of trying to keep plastic to a minimum in our waters ways.
We don’t get that many hurricanes in Canada. Halifax is sometimes on the tail end of one. Luckily we dont get that many natural disasters.
